trike triumph
yay craigslist. some weeks ago I posted that I was looking for a trike.

someone got ahold of me with a Miami Sun, one speed, hand brake, for over 100 less than I would have paid in the store. Including delivery, $265. YAY!

So 2 questions... do you use the flag thingy on the bike?

do you use a helmet?

Yay! Congratulations!
I always used a flag on mine, but I cut off that stupid orange one & got a pirate flag. ALways used a helmet, too. I have enough holes in my head, already.

Yes, helmet. No, flag. (I think those are mostly for recumbent trikes, and that's not what I ride.)

Both my trikes have flags. The delta has a tall flag pole with an American flag that is still a couple of feet taller than the upright rider. I also have lots of big flashy lights for traveling at dusk or night. A recent addition was a green toy lightsaber that sits opposite the flag and vertical and a flashy light on the front wheel for extra side viewing.

The tadpole has a tall triangular flag high enough to be seen out the window of a big SUV and also lights up like a xmas tree at night.

No helmet will protect from serious neck damage if you hit something while wearing it. I have done the experiment years ago wearing a big wide brimmed hat. The hat did a good job of protecting my head but fourty years later my neck is still a problem.

It is far far better to be noticed and not get hit than to deal with having done so. As I frequently ride around sunrise the wide brimmed hat keeps the sun out of my eyes, thus doing a better job of keeping me safe than the helmet I also have but rarely use.

The delta is a Dakota one speed that I got for $30 as a basket case, but was made whole for another $150 in parts and repairs. The tadpole was $1200 but closer to $2,000 after shipping, repairs, bling, etc.
